At Eric Sheffield & Co. craftsmanship is our constant focus.  We don’t strive for the highest quality craftsmanship because we know it will bring customers back or because we know it’s what separates us from the other options out there…we strive for perfection because it’s in our nature.  We can’t help it.  Anything less would be very dissatisfying.

Craftsmanship begins with the selection of the wood to be used and doesn’t end until the final polishing of the installed piece.  We use a variety of traditional joinery, such as mortise and tenon joints and dovetails.  We also incorporate the latest techniques such as biscuit joinery and floating tenons.  For highest strength, all joints must have a glued wood-to-wood connection.  Screws, nails, and staples should never be relied upon as the sole means of making a permanent, high-strength joint.  Dowels should be avoided for joints involving high stress.

At Eric Sheffield & Co., we make all of our own doors, drawers and moldings.  We do this so that we can control the quality of your project as well as the schedule.  The last thing we want is a pile of doors that don’t meet our quality standards, or are the wrong size, and then find out we can’t get replacements for four weeks.

Industrial quality machines and sharp tools lead to tight joints and crisp surfaces.  Meticulous sanding, with increasingly fine grits of sandpaper, is the first step to a fine finish.  All of our finishes involve at least twelve steps and three coats of finish with hand sanding between coats.  Stains, glazes, oil, and waxes add additional steps to the finishing process.

At Eric Sheffield & Co., we prefer to install all of our own cabinets.  This is not because this is the most enjoyable part of the process (frankly we’d rather be back in the workshop away from those crowds of plumbers, electricians, and painters). We prefer to install because it is actually the most difficult part of the process, and a beautiful cabinet can be destroyed by a poor installation.

Our dedication to craftsmanship extends to a healthy respect for your home or workplace.  You can rest assured that we will take all precautions to protect your walls, floors, and furniture while the installation process is underway.  We believe that a clean work place leads to better results and happier clients.
